Buying a Used Car

How can I reserve a vehicle at First Choice Cars?

Reservations are available only for vehicles whose online advert shows the reservation option. The reservation fee is AED 1,000. Contact our team or visit our Sharjah showroom to arrange payment; we issue an acknowledgement receipt once payment is received. We will also need the buyer's name, Emirates ID number, passport number, mobile number, and email address.

How long will a reserved vehicle be held?

Once the AED 1,000 reservation fee has been received and acknowledged, the vehicle is normally held for 48 hours. The customer must arrange an appointment to view the vehicle within that period. If you cannot attend within 48 hours, contact our team before the hold expires to discuss an extension.

When is the AED 1,000 vehicle reservation fee refundable?

If you purchase the reserved vehicle, the fee is applied to its purchase price. If you attend the appointment and decide not to purchase, the fee is normally forfeited. It is refundable within five working days when an approved inspection identifies qualifying mechanical faults or accident damage; cosmetic refurbishment, minor wear and tear, consumables, and tyres are excluded. Finance buyers must also provide bank-required documents within seven working days unless the deposit invoice states otherwise. The signed receipt and our Terms and Conditions govern each reservation.

What documents are required to buy a vehicle?

For a personal purchase, bring your Emirates ID and driving licence. A company purchase normally also requires an Arabic authorisation letter signed and stamped by the authorised signatory and a copy of the company trade licence. Bank-financed purchases require additional employment, identity, and banking documents.

Can I arrange an independent inspection before buying a vehicle?

Yes. Under our Terms and Conditions, buyer inspections must be completed at an RTA or other officially approved inspection facility. Inspection, vehicle-history, and agency-record checks should be completed within 24 hours of paying a booking deposit. Confirm the inspection arrangements with our team before paying the deposit.

Are the vehicle prices shown on the website inclusive of VAT?

Every listing shows its VAT treatment next to the price. Where a listing is marked "VAT Inclusive", the advertised price is the total for a local sale. Where it is marked "VAT Exclusive", the prevailing 5% VAT is added on top for a local retail sale. Export sales follow separate VAT conditions. Our team confirms the exact invoice figure with you before the purchase is documented, so there are no surprises at signing.

Is a spare key included with every used vehicle?

No. A spare key is not guaranteed with every used vehicle. Check the individual listing and confirm the number of available keys with the sales team before completing your purchase.

Can I test-drive a used vehicle before buying it?

Yes. You can visit our Sharjah showroom during business hours, request a test drive for a specific vehicle online, or call our team to arrange a convenient time – or book an appointment so the vehicle is ready when you arrive. Test drives are supervised and depend on the vehicle being available, so contacting us first is recommended.

Do you offer delivery for vehicles purchased online?

Yes. Delivery can be arranged across the UAE after the purchase is completed. Delivery location, availability, fees, and timing vary, so contact our team for an exact quotation and schedule.

Can First Choice Cars assist with vehicle insurance?

Yes, our team can assist with arranging insurance. The buyer remains responsible for obtaining the required cover. For a bank-financed purchase, the insured value must match the bank LPO; cash buyers may choose third-party or comprehensive cover, subject to insurer terms.

Car Finance

Am I Eligible for More Auto Loans?

This will depend on your debt-burden ratio (DBR), the ratio of your total monthly outgoing payments (including installments towards your loans and credit cards) to your total income. A bank in which you apply for an auto loan will use this number to calculate your eligibility for loans and credit cards, as it shows current liabilities and your ability to pay back.

According to the UAE Central Bank, your DBR ratio must not exceed 50% to be eligible for more financing. Put simply, you can only use half of your income towards paying your debts. Banks check your credit score before lending finance to determine your DBR.

What Are the Best Car Financing Options in the UAE?

In the UAE, there are several options available for financing a car, including:

  • Banks: auto loans with competitive interest rates and flexible repayment terms.
  • Islamic finance: Shariah-compliant car financing is available through the Islamic banking sector. One option is Murabaha, where the bank buys the car and sells it to the customer at a marked-up price over time.
  • Credit cards: some cards give cash back or rewards after purchasing a car, which can help offset the cost of financing.
  • Personal loans: if you have a good credit score, you may be able to get a personal loan with a lower interest rate than a car loan, which you can use to finance the purchase.

Your financial situation and needs will determine the best car financing option. Do your research, compare interest rates, and choose the option that works for you.

What are the basic eligibility requirements for used-car finance in the UAE?

Eligibility varies by bank, but common factors include age, UAE residency or nationality, monthly income, existing debts, credit history, and the selected vehicle. Many lenders require applicants to be at least 21, earn at least AED 3,000 per month, and keep their debt-burden ratio at or below 50%. The lending bank makes the final decision.

Is a 20% down payment required for used-car finance?

UAE auto-finance applications generally require a down payment of at least 20% of the vehicle price, with a lender financing up to the remaining 80%. The exact amount, fees, rate, and approval depend on the bank, applicant, and vehicle.

Must my salary be paid through WPS to apply for car finance?

For employed applicants using our eligibility process, participating banks generally require salary payment through the Wage Protection System (WPS). Lending criteria can vary, so contact our finance team if you are paid by cash or cheque before preparing an application.

What documents are required for a used-car finance application?

Requirements depend on the applicant type and bank:

  • Employed: salary certificate, stamped three-month bank statement, passport and visa copies, and Emirates ID.
  • Self-employed: trade licence, memorandum of association, passport and visa copies for the applicant and partners, Emirates ID, and three-month personal and company bank statements.
  • Company: trade licence, memorandum of association, partners' passport copies, and a three-month company bank statement.

The bank may request additional documents.

Is the online finance eligibility result a final bank approval?

No. The online check calculates an estimated debt-burden ratio and provides a preliminary indication only. It is not a binding credit decision. Final approval, rate, term, and loan amount are determined by the partner bank or financial institution after its own assessment. You may contact us to request human review of the online result.

Which used vehicles are eligible for finance?

First Choice Cars offers finance applications for eligible used vehicles up to eight years old through partner banks and finance providers. Approval still depends on the specific vehicle, applicant profile, valuation, and lender terms.

What is an EMI in car finance?

EMI means Equated Monthly Instalment: the fixed monthly amount paid toward a vehicle loan over an agreed period. The amount depends on the financed sum, interest or profit rate, fees, and repayment term. Review the bank's repayment schedule and total cost before signing.

What happens if I miss a car-finance EMI payment?

A missed payment may result in charges and can affect your credit record. Contact your bank or finance provider as soon as you expect difficulty; only the lender can confirm available payment arrangements or assistance.

Want to Check Finance Eligibility? Complete the online assessment for a preliminary result before bank review.

Selling Your Car

How can I sell my car in the UAE?

Complete the online Sell Your Car form with your vehicle details. We can arrange a free home inspection, subject to location and scheduling. A purchase offer is made only after physical inspection, document review, GCC-spec eligibility, and a current market assessment.

Why sell with First Choice Cars?

First Choice Cars provides a dealer-managed alternative to a private sale. The service includes a free valuation and inspection, subject to location and scheduling, an inspection-based offer, and assistance with the agreed documents and ownership transfer. Final acceptance and price depend on the vehicle, documents, condition, and current market demand.

What are the benefits of selling my car to First Choice Cars?

First Choice Cars is a specialist in the used-car niche. Our reputation and network allow us to pair premium used vehicles promptly with buyers. We take care of all the formalities for you to create a smooth and stress-free process from start to finish.

What is the process of selling my car?

Submit the online form, arrange the free inspection, review the inspection-based offer, and complete the agreement, documents, and ownership transfer if you accept. An eligible GCC-spec vehicle without outstanding bank finance may be paid the same day once these steps are complete. A mortgaged vehicle requires bank settlement and takes longer; timing can also vary by payment method and bank processing.

What documents are required to sell my car?

The following documents are required:

  • Emirates ID, driving license, and passport copy
  • Original or electronic registration card (Mulkiya)
  • Both sets of car keys (if available)
  • Service history book
  • Bank details for an account in the name of the registered owner
  • If the vehicle has any finance outstanding, we will require a letter with the settlement figure from the finance company

My car is currently not operational. Will you still buy it?

Not automatically. Our standard direct-purchase service is for eligible GCC-spec vehicles and requires a physical inspection and valid transfer documents. If the vehicle is not running, contact our team before booking; acceptance depends on whether the required inspection and transfer can be completed.

Do you consider buying cars that are registered outside of the UAE?

Vehicles registered outside the UAE are not automatically eligible for our standard direct-purchase process. We purchase eligible GCC-spec vehicles subject to physical inspection and the required UAE ownership and transfer documents. Contact our team with the registration details for a case-specific assessment.

Do you offer home inspection or vehicle pickup?

We offer a free home inspection, subject to location, scheduling, and vehicle eligibility. Vehicle pickup is not guaranteed; our team will confirm any handover or transport arrangement after inspection and offer acceptance.

Do you charge a transaction fee?

No. We do not charge the seller for the online valuation, physical inspection, or completed direct-purchase transaction. The valuation and inspection remain free even if you decide not to accept the offer.

Can I sell a car on behalf of a family member or friend?

Yes. If you are selling on behalf of a relative or friend, we require that you get an authorization letter (i.e., power of attorney (POA) attested by the notary public of the UAE; overseas power of attorney must be legalized) from the vehicle's registered owner. The payment and transaction details must match the owner's name on the vehicle's title. We also need a government-issued ID of the owner and the person selling the car on their behalf.

Is it possible to sell a car on behalf of a company?

Yes, it is possible to sell a company car. In that case, the following documents are required:

  • An authorization sale letter in Arabic, signed and stamped by the company's authorized signatory on the corporate letterhead
  • Company's authorized signatory (Emirates ID & passport copy with visa page)
  • Company memorandum of association copy (original)
  • Company trade license copy
  • Original or electronic registration card (Mulkiya)
  • Both sets of car keys, if available
  • Service history book
  • If the vehicle has any finance outstanding, we will require a letter with the settlement figure from the finance company

Can I sell a car with an outstanding bank loan?

Yes, we can assist with settling outstanding vehicle finance for an eligible car. You will need a current settlement letter from your bank or finance company. The outstanding amount is deducted from the final payment, and completion time depends on bank processing, inspection, and vehicle eligibility.

Sell My Car

Trade-In

Can I trade-in my car?

Yes. First Choice Cars offers trade-in services to those wishing to buy a car from us. All you need to do is provide us with your vehicle's make, model, year, and mileage. You'll be asked to bring the car in for an inspection. This is typically done when you view the vehicle for which you intend to swap it.

What documents are required for a trade-in?

Please bring your Emirates ID, driving licence, vehicle registration card (Mulkiya), available service history, and car keys. Additional documents may be required for a company-owned, third-party, or financed vehicle.

Can I trade in a car with outstanding finance?

Yes, subject to valuation and lender settlement requirements. Provide a current settlement letter from the bank or finance company. The outstanding amount is deducted from the agreed trade-in value, and our team assists with the settlement paperwork.

How long is a trade-in valuation valid?

Our trade-in offers are normally valid for 72 hours, provided there is no material change in the vehicle's condition, mileage, documents, or market circumstances. Confirm the expiry shown on your written offer.

Can I trade in a vehicle that is not in perfect condition?

You may submit a vehicle in less-than-perfect condition for assessment. Required repairs and the vehicle's mechanical, cosmetic, and structural condition will affect its valuation. Final acceptance and value are confirmed only after inspection.

Do you offer home inspection for trade-ins?

Yes, home inspection can be arranged across the UAE, subject to location and scheduling availability. You may also bring the vehicle to our Sharjah showroom. Contact our team to confirm the most convenient option.

Can I use my trade-in value toward another vehicle immediately?

Once the vehicle has been inspected, the offer accepted, and any required finance settlement or documentation completed, the agreed trade-in value can be applied toward an eligible vehicle from our inventory.

What types of vehicles do you accept for trade-in?

We assess a wide range of passenger cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and commercial vehicles. Final trade-in acceptance and value depend on inspection, condition, specification, ownership documents, and eligibility.

Consign Car

How do I start the car consignment process?

Submit your vehicle details, including make, model, year, condition, and expected price. Our team will assess suitability and, if the vehicle qualifies, provide proposed consignment terms for you to review before signing or handing over the vehicle.

What happens during the inspection?

The inspection assesses the vehicle's condition, documents, specification, market suitability, and pricing. Any preparation, repair, detailing, or related cost is carried out only when agreed in writing.

Where will my car be listed?

The approved listing content and marketing channels are specified in the written consignment agreement. Depending on the agreed scope, these may include showroom display, our website, selected third-party marketplaces, or social media.

Who handles the sales process?

First Choice Cars manages only the sales activities listed in the written consignment agreement. These may include buyer inquiries, viewings, negotiations, paperwork, and transfer support, with each party's responsibilities documented before handover.

What documents do I need for consignment?

Typical starting documents include your Emirates ID, driving licence, registration card (Mulkiya), available service history, and car keys. Final document and handover requirements are confirmed in the written consignment agreement.

Is there a consignment fee?

Any consignment fee or commission, how it is calculated, and when it becomes payable are agreed individually and recorded in the written consignment agreement before vehicle handover.

How long does it take to sell a car on consignment?

There is no guaranteed selling period. Timing depends on the vehicle, condition, specification, agreed price, buyer demand, and market conditions. The written agreement can define the listing period and what happens if the vehicle remains unsold.

Want Us to Manage the Sale? Ask about professional presentation, marketing, and buyer handling.

Commercial Vehicles

What types of used commercial vehicles does First Choice Cars sell?

Current stock may include cargo and delivery vans, passenger vans, single- and double-cab pickups, buses and minibuses, light and heavy trucks, recovery vehicles, and specialist chiller or freezer bodies. Availability changes, so check the live commercial inventory or submit a vehicle request.

What is the difference between an LCV and an HCV?

LCV means Light Commercial Vehicle and HCV means Heavy Commercial Vehicle. The main differences are vehicle size, gross weight, payload capacity, licence or operating requirements, and intended use. Check the individual listing and applicable UAE authority requirements for your business.

Can I finance a used commercial vehicle for my business?

Finance applications may be available through partner banks for eligible commercial vehicles and businesses. Approval, down payment, vehicle age, repayment term, and required company documents are determined by the lender. Contact our finance team for an assessment.

Do you offer fleet purchasing for multiple commercial vehicles?

Yes. Businesses seeking multiple vehicles can contact our commercial team for current stock, coordinated quotations, and any available fleet or bulk-purchase terms. Pricing and delivery depend on inventory and the requirements of the order.

Can I inspect and test-drive a commercial vehicle before purchase?

Yes. We encourage business buyers to inspect the vehicle, cargo or passenger area, body configuration, and relevant systems and to arrange a supervised test drive before purchasing. Contact the showroom first to confirm that the vehicle is available.

Can a commercial vehicle body be customized?

Customization may be possible depending on the chassis, body type, intended use, and applicable approvals. Examples can include cargo, chiller, freezer, recovery, or crane configurations on suitable vehicles. Discuss the required payload, dimensions, temperature, and certification with our commercial team before purchase.

What documents are needed to register a commercial vehicle in the UAE?

Requirements vary by emirate and vehicle use. They commonly include the company traffic file, valid trade licence, an authorised company letter, vehicle insurance, a technical inspection or registration test, and an ownership or transfer certificate. Confirm the latest requirements with the relevant traffic authority before purchase.

Do your commercial vehicle prices include VAT?

Most of our commercial vehicles are advertised VAT Exclusive, and each advert states its VAT treatment next to the price. Most commercial buyers are VAT-registered businesses that can typically recover the VAT as input tax, so the exclusive price is the number that matters for comparison. Export sales can be zero-rated instead. Your accountant can confirm how this applies to your company.

Which driving licence do my drivers need for a van or truck?

In Dubai, the RTA's light-vehicle licence covers vans and pickups with an empty weight up to 2.5 tonnes and up to 2 tonnes of cargo, which covers most of our panel vans. Heavier trucks require a heavy-vehicle licence, and buses need a light-bus licence (up to 26 passengers) or a heavy-bus licence above that. The empty weight is stamped on every vehicle's chassis plate, so it takes a minute to check a vehicle against your drivers' licences before you commit. Requirements can vary by emirate, so confirm with your traffic authority.

How can I check the condition of a chiller or freezer van before buying?

The refrigeration unit matters as much as the engine — it is the part that earns your money. Ask for the unit's service history alongside the vehicle's, and have the unit run to temperature during your viewing — do not buy a chiller you have not seen cold. Our current chiller stock includes Toyota Hiace, Nissan Urvan and Peugeot Expert vans; book a viewing and we will have the unit running when you arrive.

Can I use a minibus for staff transport straight away?

A minibus can start work the day it is registered, but the permit depends on the job: staff transport, school transport and passenger hire are each licensed differently. In Dubai, a light-vehicle licence covers passenger vehicles up to 14 passengers, while a light-bus licence covers up to 26. Confirm the activity permit with the transport authority in your emirate before you commit to a seating capacity.

How do I work out how much weight a van can carry?

Payload is a simple sum: the gross vehicle weight (GVW) minus the kerb weight, and both figures are stamped on the chassis plate. Choose a payload above your heaviest routine load, not your average one — running overweight risks fines and faster wear. Browse our used commercial vehicles and we can confirm the plated weights on any unit before you visit.

Can I buy a commercial vehicle for export outside the UAE?

Yes — export sales can be zero-rated for VAT when the vehicle is shipped out of the UAE within 90 days and the shipping documents match the sale. Tell our commercial team your destination and we will coordinate inspection, payment and shipping paperwork from one desk.

Online Services & Digital Tools

What is the best place to sell a car online?

At First Choice Cars, we offer an easy and efficient way to sell your car online. To get started, open our Sell Car page and fill in the form with the necessary details about your vehicle, such as its make, model, color, year, and mileage. After submitting the form, one of our team members will reach out to you to discuss the next steps in the process.

Do online car valuations change?

The price valuations given through our website are based on the information you provide about the car. Keep in mind, this is not a price offer from us to buy your car.
Before we offer to buy any car, we always conduct a physical inspection at an agreed location. You can make an appointment for an inspection after you have received a price estimate (valuation).
Its history and respective condition determine the value of a car. This includes unusual features and customization, which may not have been apparent when we estimated the value online. Thus, the online valuation could differ from the price we will offer following a physical inspection.

What does 'subject to inspection' mean?

Our online valuations are market value indications. Before any purchase, our skilled experts' assessment of your car will be necessary.
Any aspect of a car's history and unique features significantly influences its price. We cannot see certain vehicle features online, so the value offered online might differ from the final price.

How long is my car valuation valid for?

Our valuations are valid for 72 hours, subject to no material changes to the vehicle.

Favorites & Saved Vehicles

How do I save a vehicle to Favorites?

Select the heart icon on any passenger-car or commercial-vehicle card. The vehicle will appear on the My Favorites page. Select the heart again to remove it, or use Clear all on the Favorites page to empty the list.

Do I need an account to use Favorites?

No. Favorites works without registration, an email address, or a phone number. The saved vehicle IDs are kept locally in your browser; normal website analytics and the practices described in our Privacy Policy still apply.

Will my Favorites sync across phones, computers, or browsers?

No. Favorites are stored only in the browser profile where you saved them. They do not automatically sync to another device or browser. Clearing that browser's site data can also remove the saved list.

How many vehicles can I save to Favorites?

You can save up to 50 vehicles in one browser. Remove vehicles you no longer need before adding more.

Can I save passenger cars and commercial vehicles together?

Yes. Passenger cars and commercial vehicles can be stored together in the same Favorites list, even though the Compare tool handles the two vehicle types separately.

What happens when a saved vehicle is sold or unavailable?

The Favorites page refreshes availability when it loads. A vehicle that is no longer available may be removed automatically from the saved list, helping prevent stale entries.

Compare Car

What safety features to compare in used cars?

Safety should always be a top priority when choosing a car. To ensure the highest level of protection, First Choice Cars always recommends considering the number of airbags available and their placement, as well as the presence of blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control, which takes the stress out of long road trips by allowing you to set a cruising speed and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. In addition, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and a rearview camera are great safety features that can help reduce the risk of dangerous collisions and provide peace of mind while driving.

What additional features to compare in used cars?

When choosing a car, consider features that can make your driving experience more convenient and enjoyable, such as hands-free phone calls and music streaming, a built-in navigation system, a sunroof, leather seats, remote start, keyless entry, and push-button start. These features might be worth considering if you frequently use your phone for navigation and music or simply enjoy having a high-quality sound system. Determine whether they are worth the extra expense based on your budget and priorities.

With so many features to choose from, it can be difficult to know which ones are most important. That's why, at First Choice Cars, we carefully listen to your needs and do our best to compare numerous features, cars, and brands to satisfy them.

Can I compare passenger cars with commercial vehicles?

No. Passenger cars and commercial vehicles compare separately because their specifications and use cases differ. Finish or clear the current comparison before selecting vehicles of the other type.

Ready to Compare Your Shortlist? Select 2–4 vehicles and see them side by side on price, specs, and features.

Sold Vehicles

Why should I view the Sold Vehicles archive?

The sold archive helps you research model years, mileage, trims, body styles, and specifications that have previously attracted buyers. Use it to identify suitable alternatives, then compare them with current inventory or ask our team about availability.

Why are final transaction prices not shown for sold vehicles?

Final transaction prices are private and may reflect customer-specific negotiations, VAT treatment, finance, registration, insurance, or other agreed terms. Contact our team for a current quotation on an available vehicle.

Can First Choice Cars find another vehicle like one that has sold?

Yes. First check our current passenger-car and commercial-vehicle inventory using the same make, model, and specification filters. If nothing suitable is available, submit a Request a Car form and our team will search for a matching option.

Do sold commercial vehicles appear in the archive?

Yes. The archive can include passenger cars and commercial vehicles such as vans, pickups, trucks, recovery vehicles, buses, and specialist vehicles. Use the current commercial inventory page for vehicles that are still available.

How quickly do used vehicles normally sell?

There is no fixed selling period. Timing varies with the model, condition, specification, mileage, asking price, and current demand. Popular, correctly priced vehicles may sell quickly, while others can take longer. Ask our team for current market guidance rather than relying on a guaranteed timeframe.

Pricing & Valuation Policies

If I sell my vehicle to First Choice Cars, how long will it take to get paid?

An eligible GCC-spec vehicle without outstanding bank finance may be paid the same day after inspection, offer acceptance, completion of the agreement and documents, and ownership transfer. A mortgaged vehicle requires bank settlement and takes longer. Timing can also vary by payment method and bank processing.

How much can I sell my car for?

The selling price will depend on the condition of the car. If you believe your car might not achieve the price you are looking for, it is simple and easy to boost the resale value of your vehicle. Ensuring it is clean, well-maintained, and dent-free is a great starting point. Maintaining a clear record of the car's documentation and a warranty certificate is another way to ensure your vehicle attracts more attention from buyers.

I can get more for my car than what First Choice Cars had offered. Is there an alternative?

Yes. There is an alternative option. We can sell your car on your behalf via a consignment. This allows you to display your vehicle in the First Choice Cars showroom and benefit from our online advertising. Enquire to find out more.

What is the best way to determine the value of a used car?

Several methods can help determine the value of a used car, including:

  • Online comparison tool:
With the UAE having such a saturated car market, it may be hard to estimate the actual value of a used car you want to buy. Our car comparison tool lets you compare cars' features and prices with just a few clicks. Whether you are interested in a luxury car, sedan, sports car, hatchback, SUV, or commercial vehicle, the tool covers both used cars and commercial vehicles.
  • Car History Report:
A car history report can give you a comprehensive view of the car's history, including its ownership, accident history, and any major repairs or service records. This information can be used to adjust the car's estimated value.
  • Market analysis:
We can help you compare prices of similar cars (similar age, make, model, condition, and mileage) on the market to determine the value of the car you're interested in.

To efficiently compare cars in Dubai or the UAE in general, we suggest you consult with one of our knowledgeable and experienced staff members. At First Choice Cars, we prioritize your needs and search for vehicles that match those needs while caring about your budget.

What are the qualities of a good used car?

A good used car is one that has been well-maintained, is in good condition, and provides reliable transportation. To determine this, look for the car's maintenance history, mechanical condition, body and interior condition, safety features, mileage, and market value. Another good option is to test drive the car to get a feel for its performance and inspect it for any unusual sounds, vibrations, or behaviors. If you are considering buying a used car from First Choice Cars, you can book a test drive through our online form by calling or visiting our showroom in person. You may also use the online valuation tool on our website to determine the car's market value.

Does First Choice Cars offer a price-match policy?

We review genuine written competitor offers for directly comparable vehicles on a case-by-case basis. Eligibility depends on factors such as model year, specification, mileage, condition, availability, and the current terms of the price policy. Contact our sales team with the written offer for confirmation before purchase.

GCC Specification & Imports

What does it mean if my car has GCC specs?

The main difference between a GCC spec car and other cars is that a GCC spec car has been designed specifically for the UAE's roads and climate. This includes an additional protective layer against corrosion — essential in the UAE due to saltwater in the air during certain seasons.

Another key difference is the air conditioning system, which is significantly more powerful than systems found in non-GCC vehicles, built to handle the extreme heat of the region.

GCC spec vehicles are also constructed from more durable materials to withstand harsh environmental conditions. They are required to meet higher safety standards, which typically include seat belts for all seats and airbags in both front and rear positions.

You can find more information on the official page: GCC Conformity Certificates – GSO Official Page.

Should I buy an American/Japanese (non-GCC) car in the UAE?

Although they can sometimes be cheaper to purchase, American/Japanese cars do not typically meet GCC specifications as standard. This means they can be more predisposed to breaking down or experiencing technical issues. All First Choice Cars vehicles are GCC-compliant.

How can I know if my car is GCC?

There are a few details you can look out for to help determine whether a car is GCC-spec:

  • Check the car's wing mirrors. If the text on the mirror is in Arabic, the vehicle is likely GCC-compliant. If it is in English or another language, it is likely non-GCC.
  • GCC-compliant cars carry a manufacturer plate with vehicle details, such as the model and year, on the driver's door frame.

These are quick indicators rather than proof. For certainty, an authorised dealer can confirm the specification from the chassis (VIN) number — and every vehicle we list shows its specification openly.

Is it possible for First Choice Cars to purchase non-GCC specification cars?

Unfortunately, we do not purchase cars with non-GCC specifications.

Maintenance & Resale Tips

How can I keep my car in good condition in the UAE?

Several precautions can be taken to maintain and protect your car in the UAE, including:

  • Regularly check the tread on your tyres — the high temperatures the UAE experiences through the year wear them faster.
  • Have your brakes inspected regularly.
  • Replace your windscreen wipers regularly to avoid scratching your windshield.
  • Protect your paintwork with car wrapping.
  • Ensure your vehicle is serviced on schedule.

First Choice Cars can assist you with these services. Enquire online or in-store.

How can I improve the resale value of my used car?

It is simple and easy to boost the resale value of your vehicle. Ensuring it is clean, well-maintained, and dent-free is the best place to start. Ensuring you have all of the car's documentation and a warranty certificate is another way to ensure your vehicle is attractive to buyers.

Are imported cars reliable?

This can entirely depend on the vehicle's spec, model, and history. Aspects such as whether the car is GCC-compliant or not, or if the vehicle has previously been involved in a road traffic accident, can all have a bearing on this. It is also noted that exporting such cars may void any warranties or service contracts. It is commonplace to find imported American and Japanese vehicles in the UAE, but for peace of mind, many opt for a GCC-compliant car. All First Choice Cars vehicles are GCC-compliant.

How do you avoid getting scammed when selling a car?

When selling privately, protect personal and banking information, meet in a safe location, verify cleared payment, and transfer ownership only through the proper UAE process. Using an established dealer can reduce some private-sale risks, but no transaction is entirely risk-free; review the documents and payment terms before completing the sale.

How does First Choice Cars verify vehicle mileage?

Our team reviews the displayed kilometer reading using available vehicle records and inspection checks to identify signs of inconsistency or tampering. Because supporting records vary by vehicle, ask our team for the mileage-verification information available for the specific car you are considering.

What warranty options are available on used vehicles?

Some vehicles may retain a manufacturer warranty, while eligible vehicles may have optional extended warranty packages available through a provider. Coverage, exclusions, duration, and pricing vary by vehicle and provider, so review the written terms before purchase.

What inspections are performed before a vehicle is listed for sale?

Our team checks key mechanical, electrical, safety, and general-condition items before a vehicle is offered for sale. The exact scope and findings vary by vehicle, so buyers should review the available vehicle-specific information and may arrange an independent inspection for additional assurance.

What is 'Salik,' and how much does it cost?

'Salik' is an Arabic word that translates directly to 'clear and moving.' It is also the name assigned to Dubai's digital toll system. This automated infrastructure utilizes toll gates that automatically deduct a fee when passed, AED 4 to AED 6 per crossing depending on the gate and time of day under the variable-toll system. This is used to reduce congestion on certain roads in Dubai

What is the maximum speed limit in the UAE?

The maximum speed limit varies depending on where you are in the UAE and which road you are on, typically 60–80 km/h in urban areas and 100–140 km/h on highways. The posted limit always applies, and some roads enforce with no buffer, so it is strongly advised to stick to the limit. There are many speed cameras, so you will likely be caught and automatically fined if you exceed the speed limit.

Is Dubai traffic congested?

Like any significant city, Dubai can become congested at times and in places. Congestion levels are mitigated by things such as the Salik toll. Due to commuter traffic, it is advisable to avoid traveling during rush hours, typically between 7:00 am-9:00 am and 5:00 pm-7:00 pm in the evenings. You can also steer clear of parts of the city prone to congestion and check ahead of your journey for any road traffic accidents.

How much is the speeding fine in the UAE?

Here are the eight speeding-related penalties you need to know:

  • Exceeding the maximum speed limit by no more than 20 km/h: AED 300 fine.

The UAE maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy when driving under the influence. If you have any alcohol in your system, you may face severe penalties. Drivers should have a 0.00 blood alcohol reading at all times.

Is it common for cars to get vandalized/stolen in the UAE?

No. Crime levels in the UAE are relatively low compared to many other developed parts of the world, and car crime is no exception. However, reasonable precautions should still be taken to safeguard your vehicle.

Does the weather impact driving conditions in the UAE?

Although the UAE's weather is typically consistently clear and sunny, fog, rain, and sandstorms can reduce visibility. As a result, it is essential to take extra care while driving in such situations. This can include reducing your speed and maintaining a greater distance between vehicles.

What driving distance should I maintain in the UAE?

Use the "three-second rule" under normal road and weather conditions:

  • When the vehicle ahead of you passes a certain point, such as a sign, count "one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two, one-thousand-three"
  • Counting these numbers takes approximately three seconds. If you pass the same point before you finish counting, you are following too closely.

In low visibility situations, like in bad weather, increase this rule to the "five-second rule."

  • Consider this in sand/dust storms, fog, or rain
  • Use common sense and the "five-second rule" in dangerous situations – this gives you time to react (think tire debris on highways!)
  • Give plenty of space to motorcycles, as they are more vulnerable
  • High-end cars often come with a distance warning system and even 'adaptive cruise controls' – consider this in your purchase decision and activate this functionality

Is car tinting allowed in the UAE?

Previously, window tinting was banned in the UAE. However, the law was changed, and a 30 percent tint was allowed. In 2017, the federal traffic law was revised again. Now, people can tint their windows to 50 percent. However, taxis and trucks are excluded from this.
Bear in mind that the front windscreen cannot be tinted. If you are a car rental company or providing fleet services, you can tint to 50 percent. Make sure that you stay within the limit. Otherwise, you can expect a hefty fine from the traffic police. Window tinting is especially beneficial in summer, helping you escape the summer heat.

What is public parking like in the UAE?

Parking in the UAE is relatively abundant in most areas. The amount you pay will depend on the parking zone you are in. There are many ways to pay, including cash, prepaid cards, the 'm-parking' SMS, and the smart app.

Is it mandatory to wear seatbelts in the UAE?

All passengers in the UAE must wear a seatbelt while in a moving car, including those in the rear seats. Wearing seatbelts protects drivers and passengers from injuries during accidents. If any passenger is unbuckled, the driver is fined AED 400 and receives four black points on their driving license. Children up to four years old must be secured in a child safety seat, and the same AED 400 fine and four black points apply for violations. A child may sit in the front passenger seat only from age 10, provided they are at least 145 cm tall and wear a seatbelt.

Can I use a phone while driving in the UAE?

According to Article 32 of the Federal Traffic Law, using a mobile phone while driving is considered distracted driving, incurring a fine of AED 800 and four black points on your driver's license. The UAE recently installed cameras that detect committing this offense and automatically issue a fine.

Can I hire a driver in the UAE?

Yes. It is simple and easy to hire a driver in the UAE. You can hire a driver on a daily, monthly, and weekly basis. It is a popular option for those who feel they need more confidence driving on the roads. An array of driver services is available to suit various budgets and requirements.

What type of car is perfect for the UAE?

When considering a car in the UAE, it's important to think about the type of driving you will be doing. A compact car with good fuel efficiency, easy maneuverability, and visibility would be a good option if you're mostly driving in the city. For highway driving, you might want a car with a comfortable ride, good acceleration, and good fuel efficiency. A car with good ground clearance, off-road capabilities, and four-wheel drive will be ideal if you plan on driving off-road. Additionally, consider the road conditions, traffic in the UAE, and any specific requirements you have, such as a spacious car for a large family or advanced safety features for peace of mind.
